Lace, Leather and everything inbetween.

Well Hello there..

I admit its been far too long since my last blog...but I have a reasonable explanation I promise! (ok actually I don't but still..)

Anyhow...I'm officially back in the UK after completing my year in Germany and working for Puma HQ. It was a memorable year and I have learnt so much from it! Now that I'm back, instead of chatting on about Germany, this blog will be what I've currently got my eye on this season.

Since coming back I haven't stopped shopping....literally...only yesterday I found myself buying a pair of running trainers from Sketchers and a lipstick and eye shadow from MAC. Why? Truth is I'm currently going through a phase of getting my new wardrobe for Autumn/Winter and decided to invest in a number of items that will add to my wardrobe this season. If there's one or two things I'm still looking for this season it would have to be a new lace dress and something with leather.

Whilst in Germany, I wore one of my favourite blue lace dress on a night out, after washing it the colour had completely drained from the lace and it even looked as though it had shrunk! Heart broken pretty much sums it up for me...SO since then, I have been on the hunt for a new one and I have come across a lot of gorgeous dresses this season; particularly the one above. Sold in Next for £60 this lacey number is fast becoming my must have dress for this season. I am personally very fond of colours such as maroon, red, black and blue for lace dresses so this one is perfect to team with a pair of ankle boots or strappy heels for that special night.

Now, one trend I'm still determined to pull off is leather trousers but whether my thighs go skinny or leather becomes very flexible, looks like I might have to give them a miss. Still, just because I might not be able to pull them off doesn't man you cant.

Above are these leather inspired trousers in Topshop, for £42...It may not be as affordable as some other retailers, however these trousers can be worn day in, day out and are versatile enough to be worn with heels and a loose sequin top at night, as well as with converse and a slouchy jumper during the day.

As well as leather trousers, try leather boots or skirts for that added twist. I guarantee you, it wont let you down.

And on that note I'm going to go and have a rummage around my wardrobe and see what new look I can create whilst my bank account slowly slips into the minus..

Sizing Vs Stigma

Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes.

So its Bikini season, the highly anticipated season where I reckon 95% of women across the world are currently it observing. Including me.

Difference is, for me alone I dread this season. I love shopping, I love channeling my inner hippie with bright clothing, but I hate Bikini shopping. With. A. Passion.
Simply because I cannot find anything that flatters me; Now I know what you're thinking, 'God, drama queen much?', 'Seriously? Like there's a bikini for everyone'. Maybe so, but I have always viewed my insecurities as my flaws when trying to find something sexy.
I'm no size 0, nor am I huge but I do have large hips and big boobs, so naturally I struggle to wearing anything skimpy/minimal. I would often opt for supportive and sexy but somethings just don't budge.

So you can imagine my surprise when I recently came across a new bikini ad campaign by H&M featuring Jennie Runk (top photo). A plus size model who is featuring their new plus size range, not only because its a curvy model but that its by a brand who have continuously in the past featured models who are probably dress size 6/8.

This got me thinking, is the fashion industry finally shifting more towards curvaceous women and featuring them in more campaigns leading up to summer? Are magazine such as Vogue finally taking note? The second image above features Robyn Lawley, a plus side model who was featured in Vogue Australia, where they talk about women of all different shapes and sizes across the globe.

With size 14 soon becoming the new size 0 is the dress size stigma finally ending? As more and more designers and high street stores make space for dresses sizing at 14 and 16, are we going to stop judging a person by their measurements and start seeing the real them? More importantly, will there be bigger women on the catwalk for designers brands?

Once the initial judgement of dress sizes eventually fades, maybe bikini shopping wont be so dreadful and instead ill embrace my figure more..however while I can hope, more and more brands are acknowledging the demand for women who need support. Below ASOS cater for women size 16 and above; this shows beauty isn't all about the size you wear, but the sex appeal behind it.

Suddenly, I don't feel so bad about eating that grilled cheese toasty earlier, or the beers I drank this weekend..or the junk food I live off...

What? I do eat salads too...

State Your Style

http://www.topshop.com

If I was a rich girl...

If I've learnt anything from Fashion, its how to make a statement. Whether its wearing a meat dress or carrying the latest Celine bag, getting that recognition for your style is the key.
I've spent most of my life always opting for something that stands out, I once wore a black shirt with a bright orange and black striped tie...(Yes its well and truly gone now...)
Over the years my style has progressed into various looks, what I normally opted for was statement tee's with graphics or wording has now moved onto a simplistic shirt with a bold necklace; which brings me to my topic, statement jewllery. In recent months I have started opting for short, bold necklaces which stand out against my outfits at work and nights out, in particular chains and spikes. Since spikes and studs came to trend in 2011 my love for them has grown, along with my recent obsession of fluorescent colours such as yellow and fuchsia.

Now before you assume I'm going to bang on about the latest designer necklaces, you're wrong. In fact I've noticed the high street have jumped on the bandwagon and started selling statement pieces for as much as £15! After recently investing in two necklaces from H&M, I got thinking about other brands such as Topshop etc. Above these two pieces  are being sold from £20! Sounds pricey? Fear not as Primark and H&M are too selling necklaces for as little as £8! Below this silver one is going for £7.99! Bloody good bargain if I say so myself.

Why stop there though? Bracelets, Rings, Earrings and more are all just as good. As a lover of bracelets, I wear my Thomas Sabo, Pandora and Links of London bracelets everyday (which by the way totals up to 7 pieces of jewellery on my wrist, including my watch...)
Below this stunning bracelet is currently on sale in Forever 21 for £6.65!! Well...what are you waiting for? Its the perfect summer investment as it can be teamed with anything from Maxi dresses to nothing more then a bikini and a cocktail..

Given I'll be going home in less then 2 weeks for Easter, my parents kindly bought me some presents from a recent holiday I get to go home too..one of them being a statement necklace with 2/3 layers of black and silver spikes, as well as a dress and a bottle of vodka...

Honestly don't know what I'm more grateful for, the necklace and the dress or that my parents know what brand of vodka I like...

Miss FROW

http://www.missguided.co.uk

You know fashion week is big when your dad acknowledges it..

Ok, so its London Fashion Week and while most wannabe fashion bloggers out there are ranting and raving about the latest collections, I've decided to take a step back and turn my attention on how to look FROW material at a minimal cost.
I believe style isn't about the price tag but how its worn, while some people may beg to differ, if you're like me and want style on a budget then take note.

Fashion is an experimental approach to defining your look without having to limit yourself, as there is always something new every season. While I go from look to look, I like to stick to certain styles that define my personality such as edgy looks, bold colours and statement pieces.
Lately, whilst living in Nuremberg I've missed British born brands such as Topshop. Online shopping is the new approach for me and Missguided.co.uk is my latest fashion hunt. I've yet to buy anything as I reckon my rent should really come first..BUT I have been taking note. Above, this dress retails at £14.99, probably the best bargain I've seen for a Midi Dress. The best thing about this dress is the letter print defines its structure and can be easily dressed up or dressed down.

My next big look which I'm currently obsessing over is Leather. This jumper is going for £13.99! Its affordable, stylish and can be worn with anything. Team this with a maxi skirt, killer boots, a statement necklace and a sleeveless fur gilet and you're set for winter.

If you're a fashionista on the move, heeled trainers are the best look for comfort and style. While in the past heeled converse made me heave...these Isabel Marant inspired trainers have taken the catwalk, and high street by storm. Keep it minimal and opt for simple colours to team with everything but still coming across effortless. While I may be a little tall for these...If I where to own them I would wear them with patterned leggings, a loose cashmere jumper teamed with a blazer and statement bag.

And finally, for those who are daring to go bright and dress bold...I wore a bright orange flared skirt to work today and got a few compliments. Teamed with a black leotard, tights and black slipper pumps the skirt was left to do all the talking; below this bright green jumper is one of my favorite bold colours for this seasons trend as it is easy enough to wear with jeans, skirts etc. Team with OTT accessories and your look is complete. (Even the picture indicates bloggers love this..)

So while most of us don't have access this year, that doesn't mean we cant dress up and have our own fashion show...

If you excuse me, I have some heels and a dress waiting to be paraded around in...in the comfort of my bedroom...

Sweat Is The New Black

http://www.hm.com

Yeah, because we all look like that when we work out...

As I was working up a sweat in the gym today (correction a bucket's worth...) I started to think of what it takes to find the perfect gym wear without breaking the bank and still look good..well before hand anyway..

Now I know I what you're thinking, because of my internship with Puma you'll think I'm going to talk about that, think again..as I recover from todays session I am in fact chillaxing in my H&M gym gear.

Kind of ironic eh?

Truth is, before I got this internship I relied on a pair of 3/4 running leggings I bought from H&M over a year ago and they did just the trick. Since then I have recommended H&M as the place to go for affordable, fashionable and more importantly practical gym wear.  The material used is sweat absorbent and breath-able which is exactly what you need.
I'm talking about H&M in particular because over the weekend I decided to buy a new gym outfit. This involved a Fluorescent Pink t-shirt and black long running leggings. Pretty simple I know, but the idea behind this was to find something that is durable.

Now whether its down to sizing or (by a stroke of sheer luck) I have lost weight...ha, the leggings alone where a bit tricky to run in as I had to keep pulling them up...but the top was good and to be fair, I'm no athlete so for me this was the affordable, durable look I needed. The top retailed at 15 euros and the leggings 20 euros.  So all in all not too shabby, and given I have a free gym membership throughout my internship, I think its safe to say it is money well spent.

As for running shoes however, these I will recommend spending a bit more on as they are one of the key essentials to gym wear if you rely on your feet a lot. I wear Puma running trainers which consist of lightweight  material and foam based padding for a more convenient approach to running in. The last thing you should wear are trainers with a flat sole that are chunky and heavy to run in. Consider investing in something that doesn't consist of much material so your feet can breath too.
Below these trainers retail at £40.00 currently reduced from £80.00 online.

On that note, I bought Puma Suedes last night...smart move really because now its pouring it down in Nuremberg. At least they're keeping the shoe box they came in comfortable..

Photography my own.

Maybe the title gives it away a little..

As it I sit in bed listening to music and recovering from a gym session (followed by devouring a pizza) I think back to why its taken me so long to do this. My reason? Well I've been slightly occupied in the past few months since my last post.

As most of you know my little surprise isn't so big now. For those who don't? Its simple. I've upped my Mancunian roots and planted them firmly in Deutsche soil.
I successfully secured an internship with Puma SE at their Headquarters in Germany for a year baby! As I look back to my previous blogs and how I'd rant and rave about my lack of experience and luck with securing a placement, I can safely say all that wining and bitching paid off! It wasn't easy but I accomplished my main goal for 2012 and left for Germany end of August.

Its been an interesting but enjoyable  five months so far. While most people look upon moving abroad a scary mission, I welcomed the challenge and with that the opportunities that followed.
As I have 7 months left I cant believe how fast its all gone! In the first four months I traveled to Munich, Frankfurt, Berlin and Prague alone! (Not bad for an intern eh?) Oh and followed with a spontaneous over night stop in Amsterdam...thanks to missing my connection flight...

Where do I even begin with explaining it all? Actually I cant, since becoming a working lass I've struggled to stay up past 11pm on weeknights and up by 7am..oh and as for drinking? leaving that purely to the weekend...(turning up to  work slightly drunk at 8.30am and being hungover isn't cool..)

As for my shopping antics? Don't get me started...with my flat being within walking distance of the main shopping area this has lead to me coming home with far more then I bargained for, speaking of which store wise? I'm limited to Zara, H&M, Urban Outfitters, Mango and Vera Moda. If I can name the shops in my area in less than two sentences, you know i'm limited

Still, I figured I'd make a blog while my reminder on the iPhone continues to go at precisely 10am everyday. Why I decided on 10am I have no idea..

I'll keep you all posted on my antics and whats happening out here. I don't have an excuse any more now...

PS. Buttered Pretzels are my new found obsession. And that's not all...

Cruising Through

I love a good fashion spree. More importantly I love the opportunity to dress up!
In a week's time I'll be boarding a cruise which will be sailing the Mediterranean, as well as this I have been told I need to dress up for formal night. So upon my recent shopping trips I've been looking into an affordable formal gown that still oozes class.

After looking at the BCBG Max Azria collection (above) I have gained a clearer idea on how I'd approach formal night. Floor length gowns with bold colour and minimal detail, create a sophisticated and timeless look. A style that can be worn for any occasion. These style gowns are also staple pieces which you can invest in and wear time and time again. More the reason why I may end up dipping into whatever 'financial' income I have...student loan ahem.

Still, I can dream. My second option for a less formal attire would be something flirty, a cocktail dress to match my strawberry daiquiri. The silver bodycon above is an example, and while I dream of the day I have the will power to sacrifice cupcakes for calorie counting; for now I'm going to opt for dresses that fit on the waist and loosen around the hips.

Another key look for any summer holiday (let alone cruising) is the day wear attire. Now long walks on the beach and lazy days by the pool should require minimal effort when it comes to clothing. Which is why I'm aiming to go minimalistic but with a hint of edge. (Note my sequin denim shorts will shimmer on the boat, with confidence.)

I'm tempted to see if I could pull of white skinnies...while in the past I viewed them as a massive fashion disaster, my taste has varied. Still, it's early days. However, if I team these bad boys with my newly purchased black and white striped shirt, I suppose the possibilities are endless this summer.

Unlike my suitcase limit...

From Birkin To Burkini

Image; my own.

Now I know it's been a while since my last blog, but in my defence I have been out of the country for 2 weeks!
For those of you who don't know where I've been, I holidayed with my boyfriend and closest friends in the town of  Marmaris, Turkey. I have to admit for a first time experience I was pleasantly surprised. The town itself is surrounded my stunning mountains, covered in tree's. As well as this, a long beach which stretched across the coast with beach side bars and restaurants that overlooked the ocean.

Now, I could bore you with the basics or I could get on with the cultural aspect of Turkey. As a Muslim country, I noticed a mixture of women who dressed casually and conservatively; from shorts and bikini's to veils and sandals its something you'd often see in the UK. However, if there's one thing I've yet to see is a Burkini!

Some of you will automatically recognise the name, others may not. Whilst at my hotel I noticed one particular woman sporting the Burkini look, whilst the rest of us wore bikini's. This got me thinking, in a modern society where most of conform to the latest styles and looks, we soon break free of the religious conformity as most of us feel they offer very little style. What I often thought about religious people was, what did they wear during the beach or by the pool? Swimsuits? But that still lacks modesty. In fact, I heard most religious women dont wear anything but their clothes...imagine the heat!

So Burkini's seem to fight the description. Practical, durable and most importantly conservative. I noticed the woman at the hotel seemed very comfortable and relaxed in her Burkini. It got me thinking, maybe conservative is the way forward? While most of spend the year working ourselves into shape for the sake of a skimpy bikini, some of us don't feel confident with displaying what we've got.  Maybe next season's approach to style will involve more material and less skin.

Another thing I noticed out there? Well its pretty obvious, fake designer goods! I must come across as excited to you right now, but to be honest I'm a student whose only source of income that could secure me a Chanel bag, is my loan. And we all know that isn't going to go down well...

Which is why I was pretty determined to source myself another 'designer' bag (like my Mulberry one in Istanbul). Lo' and behold I managed to come across a Hermes Birkin bag; now most shops wanted ridiculous amounts for them, and for a fake I decided against them. So when The Boy stepped up the mark and managed to haggle, he successfully claimed a red Hermes Birkin bag for 60 Lires (£20) originally 240 Lires! I have to admit I was pretty impressed.

The image below is a genuine bag, mine however is very similar to this! So you can understand why I'm slightly relieved. Now I know fake bags are an issue that needs to be addressed, however as a student who lacks financial income to support her love for fashion, I feel for now this bag justify's where I stand. Fakery may not be the answer to designer retailers who loose millions each year, but realistically some of us dont have the money (or ever will) to feed our desires. Instead some of us settle for second best. And quite frankly, I'm not complaining.

Calling All Boys

:
Image 1 of Polo Ralph Lauren Oxford Cotton Shirt Custom Fit

For all of my lad friends out there.

Oh Boy...its the summer so you know what this means right?

Don't ignore this guys. In fact, ignore everything around you (sorry girls) and read this...you'll thank me.
Its the summer holidays, and while us ladies are frolicking about in mini skirts, maxi dresses and letting our long flowing locks down, we've noticed something just isn't right. It's your look!
Come on guys, its not hard...all you need to do is whip that wallet of yours out and get spending! No excuses, if us girls can find something you surely can.

This summer's look has welcomed a number of looks, and while most of you guys out there refuse to even consider wearing THAT shirt or THOSE chino's its still important to get out there and experiment. Now The Boy is a prime example, I've taken him to a number of stores (actually I've forced him in..) and lo' and behold he's actually invested in something from..(wait for it..) TOPMAN. The Boy's look is very much Next but seeing him in Topman shirt and jacket does get me a bit merry..ahem.

SO. If I can get my anti-shopoholic of a boyfriend to get 3 new shirts, I'm pretty sure I can convince anyone.
Above I have chosen a couple of shirts from ASOS and Ralph Lauren, these shirts tick all the right boxes; its nothing too bold or too old fashioned, instead its this summer's must have approach to diverse style. Ranging from £26 - £85 these shirts are the best investment as they can be durable and compliment any type of guy. Whether you're a rocker or indie, student or father-of-two these shirts are a timeless approach to style.

I 'aint stopping there lads..

JEANS. Its something us girls appreciate in a guy. We don't as for much, just something that fits. (Please, stop the underwear display..I don't care if you like Spongebob Boxers.) A simple cut, colour and style and guys you're set. Try Zara jeans, these durable bad boy's will go with anything; from tops to shirts, tanks to polo's and more. Perfect for those summer festival's and lads night out on holiday, you can team them with Converse, sandals and more. Simples. For £39.99 its a cost worth opting for.

PS. Its father day this Sunday, so I think its safe to say a new shirt may just be appreciated...
Well? What are you waiting for? Seriously get that card of yours and go!...like now.

Festival Fetish

Parklife festival '11

Other than summer holidays, summer festivals are next big thing when it comes to owning that 'must-have' summer look. Which is why I'm very excited for the Parklife Festival taking place in Manchester this weekend! Having been once before, I got a good idea on what styles where hot and what i'll be aiming to go for this year. One minor issue? Well its based in Manchester, so the unpredictable weather has left me in a bit of a tizzy..after all I was relying on my Primark Parka last time!.

So I've decided to present to you my idea's for this summer's look. Last year I opted for a printed blouse, denim shorts, tights and knee high boots (which where soon binned after covering them in 10 inches of mud..). Day two consisted of a purple, tribe printed playsuit. This year however? Well I intend on wearing something different to before. Above is a jumper from River Island; the mixture of soft pastels creates that summer feeling as well as still being practical  for those chilly nights, teamed with denim shorts and sandels/wellies(both from River Island and Topshop) this look will create a summer vibe whilst still being durable and comfortable.

Not a shorts person? Fear not, for this seasons must have summer gowns have grown with the constant demand in summer maxi's and printed shift dresses. If like me, and you want to stand out from the crowd then opt for something printed, unique and fresh. This tasseled number is going for £20 in River Island and quite frankly whether its for a daytime festival or a night on the town, this dress is perfect. Its modest approach to looking sexy will ensure you that it's durable with a parka and wellies all day, and a pair of heels and a clutch at night.

If that doesn't take your fancy, then I suggest you opt for this printed number (below) from Topshop. The simple cut and bold prints ensure's a durable approach to styling up and styling down. As well as this, the design and cut itself will work with any type of figure as it wont cling to parts of your body. The cut out detail at the waist also gives off a playful approach to the look.

I view this summer's look as a way of experimenting and exploring different looks, I urge you all to step out of your winter look comfort zone and start opting for looks you never once thought you'd wear. After all, its a way of being able to express yourself!

Now where did I leave my debit card...

Get Jacked

lulu guinness union jack lips

Ah to be British. As most of you know the Diamond Jubilee is round the corner, after all how can you avoid it!? There's Bunting on every street corner...

Now anyone who knows me, knows I'm big on the Union Jack (seriously, I'll be having a house one day filled with Union Jack wallpaper..). So I'm finding it pretty exciting to see a lot of Patriotism filling our high street stores! This of course isn't just the bunting, car flags, mugs etc...I'm talking about the little things that have caught my attention!

Not big on flaunting it in an over the top manner? No problem. Girls its all about keeping minimal; while Union Jack inspired earrings, hair extensions and sunglasses might seem like a good idea now think about how it'll just gather dust until the next Jubilee! I'm talking about investing in something you can use after the Jubilee hype. The Lulu Guiness Union Jack Lips clutch is my personal favorite! While it screams patriotism now, after it'll say 'look at me, I'm not just another clutch'. It's edgy but sophisticated approach to style has gotten a thumbs up from me as something you'd want to be seen with.

Next, is my take on attempting to get you guys into the Jubilee spirit. While I doubt the majority of you will be wearing Union Jack earrings and leggings, I can assume however most of you wouldn't mind wearing a simple t-shirt?  Below is a London printed t-shirt from Topman. Simple, durable and down to a T this top is perfect for showing your love for Britain without flaunting it to an extent....that is unless most of you guys out there intend on wearing Union Jack dresses to the local pub? By all means you have my blessing!.

With the summer festivals soon to be knocking on our doors, I personally have yet to find myself a new pair of wellies! So seeing these on the Hunter website has given me an idea; why not channel my British love into something practical? After all, the recent summer heatwave came to an abrupt ending the other night when it started to pour it down..(note to self; running around in denim short shorts and sandels is not a good idea). So I've decided to consider investing in decent wellies in order to avoid the same mistake come my weekend festival, next weekend. These Hunter Wellies are perfect, the must-have footwear for summer festivals around the world, and with the rush of patriotism in our blood it seems perfect!.

Then again, I've always wanted something Union Jack related...at least now I have an excuse to run up and down my street looking like Geri Halliwell did in THAT dress.

Now where did I put those Union Jack knickers..

Confessions Of A Fashion Junkie

I have a confession to make. Its not pretty, in fact....I'm rather ashamed.
I've been unfaithful lately, its not something I could control. I've been under a lot of stress and needed a quick fix, but I never stopped caring I just needed to get away from it all.
If I'm being honest, I actually enjoyed the thrill of it for a while, but the reality of it all started to set in and I realised this was wrong, so I'm confessing to it all now.
I've been having an affair...with Tumblr.

It started over Easter, I decided to join and started a few posts but the reality of exams started to settle in and since then I decided to cut myself off the blogging and tumblr radar for a bit. Lately however? Well I decided to play with fire and go back to Tumblr. Once exams where over I had some more free time and decided to go back onto Tumblr and check it out. I was hooked. I started to find inspiration and idea's from these images. They provided me with idea's when it came to shopping, what could be worn and done and whats achievable.

Naturally, as I got more into it I noticed I had neglected my beloved Blogspot, after all we've been through it all since October. So I realised its time I confessed to my sinful behavior and come clean. Which is why I'm advertising my latest Tumblr account to those of you who know whats its like to get hooked on something so  addictive (and healthy of course). Its the next big thing with bloggers, there are no words needed just images for most. The best thing I feel about Tumblr is the collections you can start and the way its provides you with  something to gain idea's from, if like me, you want something to go for i.e. a summer festival or holiday!.

Its also a way of you being able to express yourself, you're interests and talents. Now I'm not exactly 'talented' shall we say; but I do feel I can be creative and imaginative more so Tumblr is a great way of me being able to express myself through colours and images. As well a this, those who know me can see what I like, and where I can get my inspiration from.

Fear not however, I am coming back to blogging...I miss typing!. I will from time to time share images from my Tumblr account on here as a source of information and where I get my looks from. So I suppose that's the best of both worlds eh? Speaking of which...I've got a lot installed for you guys when its comes to my blogs this summer, with a festival and two summer holidays ahead plus my recent (and ridiculous) shopping spree...you wont be bored.

For now however feel free to check out my Tumblr account http://www-fashionjunkiemem.tumblr.com/ i'll try and keep it updated for you!

After all, its healthy to experiment right?
Just an idea when it comes to this seasons look…..well once Ive got some money to actually spend instead of grow…Damn I wish I was her.
