Feeling Blue

There's nothing I love more than a Chanel fashion show.
Seeing as this cold wont shift, I've taken comfort in doing nothing more then spend my Saturday night in admiring the latest Spring/Summer '12 Haute Couture collection. Ironically, given I'm feeling a little blue the collection itself was nothing more than endless shades of various blues. Now this cheered me up. (I lie, the entire catwalk show cheered me up).

From start to finish, the catwalk itself was presented in a totally different way to what is usually done. Instead of the grand hall used to display large props for the show, this show appeared to be simplistic with a twist. Instead of your standard runway, Karl has opted for an airplane themed layout, including the seating position, background drop and colours. Not a hint of the famous locked 'CC' logo in site.
As if this wasn't enough, watching each model present the latest collection got me a little excited. Why? because the entire collection was sophisticated, feminine and very Audrey Hepburn. Another reason I got excited? The entire colour palette consisted of Black, Greys, Whites and the majority Blue's. As most of you know, I'm rather in love with the colour blue, and when it comes to garments if its embellished, navy and detailed then i'll snap it up quicker then you can say Salvatore Ferragamo.
What I found particularly stunning was the head-to-toe embellished gowns with large encrusted jewels and sequin fabric, with shades of  blue varying from sky to sapphire. Followed by the nude tights with various jewels embellished at the top, for me this really set off the collection.
Now I'm a girl who likes to travel in style, and if it means travelling like this, then my wardrobe collection will be reaching new heights this summer...30,000ft to be exact.

Claire Richards poses naked to show weight gain as she goes from size 10 to 16

As I spend my Friday evening recovering from a horrendous cold, I decided to curl up on the couch and flip through the TV and internet. Oddly enough, when I decided to read one article, a television show with similar information comes on.
The article I was reading is based on Isabelle Caro, the show is hosted by Claire Richards. Any of these names sounds familiar to you? If not here's some brief information.
Isabelle Caro was a french model who was known as the 'face of anorexia', her image shocked the world as she portrayed herself across billboards, naked, to bring to light the seriousness of her condition and how anorexia is something the fashion industry in particular, needs to take note of. Isabelle was one of the few women who spoke out about anorexia, trying to highlight how it was something she wasn't proud of, and in fact wanted young women to understand just how serious this condition is.
Sadly, Isabelle passed away in November 2011 aged 28. She had been battling her anorexia since she was 13, ironically it was amazing she had lived that long.
Claire Richards is a former Steps singer who is known as one Britain's biggest Yo-Yo dieters. Her heaviest was 16 stone, and now she is currently looking into loosing her weight as she has shrunk and ballooned constantly. As part of her show, Claire looks into different alternatives on how to loose weight in certain areas's i.e. her legs. This has involved her researching Liposuction and hiring personal trainers (who just happened to eat dog food...yes seriously).
So this got me thinking. In a world where people are either size 28 or Size 4, what does it take to help us understand the impact it will have on us in the future, what is considered 'acceptable' and more importantly what will it take to get us to change our perspective on weight?

As mentioned in my previous blogs, I have always considered women of different sizes and shapes to be acceptable. What will it take however, to get those with influential power to help us change our minds?
I (like many women), wish I could change parts of my body to feel more confident. However, sometime's I do think I'm lucky to have what I've been given naturally.
Surrounding myself with friends of different shapes, often leaves me thinking as to how far they are willing to go to look good. I've seen some loose and gain weight, I often wonder if they've gone too far, but more importantly why. Fashion can have a large influence on ones perspective, and I'm not just referring to what you wear. In a industry where men and women with 'acceptable' bodies are constantly portrayed in the media, other's will use them as a form of motivation when striving towards that 'perfect' weight, which is then highlighted in the industry as they often land modelling contracts, attend fashion shows and promote high end, tailor made clothes; designed for that particular shape.
Psychologically speaking, a lot of people will suffer emotional and physical pain with their bodies alone from an early age, scaring them for life. This could later on result in them wanting to take control by altering themselves to feel confident. Others however, may in fact choose to embrace this. Those who are born and develop slim frames, may get slated in the media for promoting 'skinniness' but cant help it; its who they  are. Whereas those with a larger frame try to promote themselves by saying 'you don't have to be skinny to look good'.
All in all, as a size 12, 5"8ft girl skinniness isn't on the agenda for me this year. I wont lie to you, I do go to the gym (when I've decided to peel myself off the couch) but this is purely down to wanting to 'tone up' rather then turn into a stick. Anyone out there who feels the need to loose weight for personal I reasons, I wont condemn, there's nothing wrong with wanting to look after yourself.
Just remember, its not about how you look but how you feel.

The One Off Beauty Tip

Dream Airfoam
Maybelline 'Dream Nude Airfoam'  £8.99

So in between my 2 minute blogging break (I'm making up for 2 weeks lack of work here...) I decided to fix my make-up in preparation for The Boy's brief visit. (Call me what you want but I refuse to look crap).
This got me thinking, why don't I mention my latest beauty marvels?
Upon a trip to town yesterday, I decided to splash out on some decent foundation after a disastrous foundation find the other day (it resulting in making my face look streaky...could have put a Zebra to shame).
So when I tried and tested this one, I was pleasantly surprised! its exactly what it says on the tin. Its a foam foundation, easy and lightweight I'm rather liking this at the moment! I prefer liquid based foundation's, but finding this has got me thinking about how much easier it is to apply and wear. It's not cheap but i'd strongly recommend it for you all!

Secondly, this was an approach I've never had done before. Eyebrow Threading. Sounds painless? You're wrong. Now I'm no beauty expert and to be honest, I just tweezed them. So when Nicki and I decided to get them done, I had no idea what to expect! It looked painless, but experiencing it was a totally different thing! I have to admit, I did feel my eyebrows where being removed! The process involves collecting the row of hairs from the top, bottom and side of your eyebrows in each thread, its quick and simple. Despite the over-watering eyes and bright red marks across my forehead it was a successful result! My eyebrows have never looked so defined! For £5 it was worth it....well cost wise...
Girl's give it a go, and guys if you're feeling daring...

What I've Been Wearing

Me: Versace inspired dress Miss Selfridge £28
Jaimie; Green dress, Forever 21 £11.50

Well, here's a snippet of my recent purchase. Its the Miss Selfridge Versace inspired print dress I've been wanting since Christmas! Lo' and behold, I finally managed to buy it! With a 20%  student discount going on I figured it was now or never (and you think I'm being dramatic..).
Originally £35, I got it for £28 and thankfully I don't regret it at all! I love the print, colour and fit of the dress. Slightly different to what I usually wear, given this litlle number has long sleeves and colourful patterns. The back  is quite low cut too, but given its covering most of my body, I cant complain. Easy to wear both day and night (as demonstrated both in Uni and clubs) this dress is the perfect find for this season's inspired look. Jaimie is wearing a Forever 21 dress, perfect for her petite frame, this colour brings out her curves and figure perfectly. For £11.50 its simply a brilliant bargain! When asking me whether this colour would suit her or not, I automatically said yes to this shade, its diverse and compliments any skin tone. So girls get buying! (and fast).

Below, another night out involving Jaimie and Nicki. You may recall me blogging about this top, but for those who have forgotten it is in fact by H&M and is going for £25, not too shabby for a all round sequin top! Im obsessed with navy blue at the best of times, but finding this was no difference. Its easy to wear with a black mini, shorts, jeans etc and it doesn't require alot of accessorizing too! I chose to wear my chunky,  gold and navy twist necklace from Dorethy Perkins...(caught it on sale for a cheeky bargain of £4.50..) It goes well with alot of my items at the moment! May end up replacing it with my peace sign necklace....did I just say that!? I'll keep you posted...

Take note people, these faces are going to be seen a lot more on the big screen this year!
Above Zoe Deschannel, Ellie Fanning and Elizabeth Olsen. These are just a few of many girls who are up and coming in Hollywood this year, as well as that they have also been accredited in the fashion industry for their sense of style, who they wear and how they wear it. Zoe was seen wearing a custom made Prada gown for the Golden Globe awards, followed by her nails painted with tuxedo designs..very cute! Ellie Fanning, sister of Dakota will be stepping into her shoes soon as she takes on Hollywood! Hard to believe how young she is. Finally, Elizabeth Olsen. Sister of Mary-Kate and Ashley and the name behind their designer collection 'Elizabeth and James'. Elizabeth has already made her own horror film, soon to released and has gained instant recognition for her role, as well as style and similar characteristics.
People keep your stylish eyes peeled, this girls will be around a lot more this year!

The Kong Shirt's

Oh dear...where have I been for the past 2 weeks!? Well my excuses include; University, shopping, limited internet, shopping and shopping...ahem.
Fear not, I've not forgotten you all! In fact a lot of my purchases will soon be blogged about.
Anyway, this blog is based on Paul Dickinson. Thanks to the recommendation from Nicki Hughes, I have been introduced to a new outlook on t-shirts. Note guys this can also apply to you!
Paul Dickinson has worked for editorial magazines , publishing houses and advertising agencies across the globe, however one of his main interests is to interpret " traditional drawing and graphic techniques with the newer technologies to create innovative, polished art with an edge" And indeed he has. Now I don't often wear t-shirts, but these I'm willing to make an exception for; we're all use to seeing the standard t-shirt design's but these have an added edge, and you know what else? The designs are unisex so boys and girls get yourself online and start buying! Just make sure you don't get caught wearing it on the same night!
These tops are perfect when teamed with wet look leggings, heels and a blazer for all you laid back, effortless look party girls or dressed down with shorts, flat and a leather jacket for a shop about town.
Boys, fear not if you don't feel confident with heels and wet look leggings...skinny jeans, straight leg, chino's etc work perfectly well both for nights out and nights in.
Starting price is £25, not too shabby for a one-off design!

When Something 'Aint White..

this.

God that is so accurate

DSC_0143 copia

I'm having one of those days. In fact, as far as my wardrobe goes...this is in fact a disaster.
Upon dinner with The Boy I decided to wear my favourite, 'never fails on me', perfect with everything white blouse. At the time, my main concern was avoiding having my dinner on it, but instead I got rail markings on it! (Dont ask..) So since then it has involved 4 hand washes and 2 washing machines and a mad dash to ASDA in a bid to use Vanish (hoping of course it will solve all problems..) But no, instead after the first attempt with the washing machine it came out with BLUE yes blue patches on both sleeves. I honestly think I'm being punished. After leaving the top to soak in the bathroom sink for 4 hours (and covered in Vanish crystals) still no luck, so as we speak it is currently in the washing machine....and I think i went overboard on the Vanish again.
I know you're thinking its just a top, buy a new one etc. and its not even a luxury brand one...in fact its Primark! But its so perfect. I might cry if my local launderette cant save it.I have learnt two things from all of this;
1) NEVER wear white or favourite tops in public again.
2) My wedding dress will be Jet Black, Vera Wang of course.
So to cheer myself up, I hopped onto Tumblr again and found some rather accurate/cheerful images. As for the top, I'll keep you posted. If you know how to save my top, please contact me. People this is URGENT.

angstt:

want
Seriously want these...

Obsessive Compulsive Shopper (OCS)

Photography: My own.

'OCS' Symptoms include; Constantly hunting for bargains, Relying on whatever form of income for THAT Top, Risking you're life in horrendous weather conditions, 'borrowing' endless amounts of money off family relatives you know you can't payback until you've reached you're mid 40's, getting high on an adrenaline rush when you find that perfect top, in your size...on Sale.
The following drawbacks include; Wardrobe's collapsing under strain, 'Balance Available' equaling Zero, finding another top and style in your size you didn't see before, loosing track of your purchases, wanting more then you need and never saying NO to Value retail brands i.e. Primark.
After today I have diagnosed myself with this. So over the winter I took advantage of the Boxing sales (as blogged) but since then, I haven't stopped. So as you can see from the following images I decided on a little change in outfits. When shopping with The Boy last week I saw a Jack Daniels top and had to have one! So the next day I hopped down to Afflecks and bought this one for £15! its actually a lot longer...Next are these denim shorts I found in Miss Selfridge, thanks to my £5 off voucher and student discount, I got them from £30 to £22. Cant complain. Next is the black blouse from Primark for £6, seen all over the high street lately. Finally, the new 'night out' outfit; Below is the navy blue sequin top (£25) and black trousers (£15) both from H&M. I figured its a treat after doing well in an assignment....
To top it off, above are a few pieces of jewellery I've gotten recently, including the scrabble ring my room-mate Daisy bought me for Chirstmas. Also, is it odd that up until I got this ring I established 3 was my number?
So as for my OCS, when my bank account runs dry i'll go cold turkey. Promise.

Capturing The Imagination

Brings back Corfu memories. Summer '11
Upon recent acknowledgement and discussions with friends, I've started to debate as to whether I should hop on the Tumblr bandwagon or not.
Flipping through various ones has got me thinking. The main reason why I do love Tumblr is because of the way images appear on it. A lot of people who use Tumblr have uploaded some really good images, capturing some good photography. Now Im a sucker for photography so often enough when I see an image, I'm usually inspired to follow whatever's portrayed. Which is why I've decided to blog about some of the images I've found.
I love nothing more then capturing moments like the first image above. Not only is it something you want to remember for the rest of your life, but its something you could claim as an achievement, it 'aint easy after all. As for the others, some fashion related, some about happiness and others about wants....such as long luscious locks...well I'm trying.
Speaking of trying I've gone 10 days and counting without chewing my nails....and I've not used the nail biting stuff either! Will power at its finest!.
Anyhow, have a gander at these images and see what you think, if and when I do get a Tumblr account this is what will be on it.
Shall keep you all posted!

Global Influence

This blog is dedicated to all my viewers across the globe.
After checking out the statistics to my blog, I have to admit having viewers as far as India, Serbia and Australia got me feeling a little cheerful! So this blog will be based on global style and how famous cities/countries are recognised in the fashion industry.
As a fashion student, I look into global styles and productions carried out in different countries. Looking at the way different countries portray fashion intrigues me; I'm from England, so style out here can be something completely different to countries as far as the east, but that's what's fascinating about it all. We can see from the media how style is widely acknowledged through various shapes and styles due to interest and inspiration generated. England carries a number of styles thanks to global influence's, allowing many people to experiment with their style. When I go abroad, I love finding bracelets, bags, clothes etc that you wouldn't so much as find at home, often enough (given the environment) I would even try to channel a particular look, i.e. bold colours and over accessorizing.
Designer's in particular, travel all over the world to find inspiration for their next collection. Following my blog on Chanel's recent 'Bombay meets West' blog, you can see how influential different cultures can be. My personal favorite has to be Indian style. The use of colour, detail and embellishment in their clothing always gets me thinking, and more importantly dreaming as to when I'll ever be able to wear them!!
With inspiration, comes fashion and this is how the fashion industry is constantly generating new looks each season. What is often showcased on the catwalk, is then broken down onto the high street; a piece of jewellery with bold colours could have originated from a bangle in India or China.
Take note guys, style isn't just about what you wear, but the story behind it all.

Polaroids. The Answer

For anyone who is an amid reader of my blogs, may recall my blog on 'Bring Back Polaroids'.
Well guess what I've found...Upon a trip to town today with The Boy, I decided to have a gander in Urban Outfitters and saw this. Its the Fujifilm Instax Wide 210 Camera & Film Set. I did (in all honesty) get very excited at the idea of owning something close to an original Polaroid camera. As the description states; ''offers vivid instant photography reminiscent of that classic Polaroid imagery we've come to know and love'' I cant help but  want this even more. Now I know I own a digital camera, and they are quicker etc. But owning something that will capture moments you want to hold on to there and then, seems to have more of an appeal. (I'm trying convince the mother with this spiel...) However, for £120 it will take some saving up...and more shifts at work...to cover this. Looking at it more and more I suppose I could resort to 'ebaying' my wardrobe...Ha as if.
I'll keep you posted...

Oh Baby!

Baby G. Need I say more?
When reading the latest issue of Grazia, I came across a mention about Baby G Premium watches. I started to think back to the days where having a digital, glow in the dark Baby G watch was all the range. Those Velcro straps and standard designs where the trademark back in the early 90's. Now I can remember these watches back in Primary school, often enough a playground trend. So over the past 10 years or so they happened to disappear, looking back they weren't all that bad. Now however, a recent make-over and they are starting to look more like an investment and less like a playground toy. My personal favourites  are these featured. Prices vary from £80-150, with a unique approach to the faces. Each one has a star design, giving the watch a cheeky nod to a classic name.
The only thing I cant see on this watch? The 'Glow' button. Now times really have changed..

When Boy Met Burberry

Two things I love. British Men and a British love story.
So when I read on Twitter about Burberry's latest campaign I was rather excited. Eddie Redmayne was recently seen in the film 'My Week With Marilyn Monroe'. I have to admit my heart did melt for him, he's got the typical British charm that would make Mary Poppins swoon. Not only that, but how adorable are those freckles!?
Anyway, lately I've started to look into Burberry and cant help but adore the true British heritage that follows. This season's look consists of a mixture of materials and fabrics comprised when recreating the classic trench. So far so good, I tip my imaginary S/S'12 Burberry cap to you Christopher Bailey. If anyone can design a stylish trench coat that will still be worn when the sun is shining, and the clouds are non-existent its you Mr. Bailey.
Im not just talking about the women's style either girls, Boys take note. You dont have to be a born and bred Brit to follow this type of look. Tweed, Trench and Timeless is the approach this season. Just look at the classic style's portrayed in recent years and you're on the right track.
Now if someone could just get me those heels featured above, that would be great.

Looking Sharp

Blue My Mind added by savvina
COLLAR added by LBGS

New Year. New Me.
This is what I'm telling myself from now on. For a start, I'm no longer attempting to chew my nails off! So far,  four days in and not a single chew. Another one, take it as it comes. By that I mean I'm going with the flow and seeing where it'll take me.
On a style note, I'm looking into how to define my style a bit more. Looking through old clothes from the past 6 years has left me thinking 'why', 'how'' and 'what was I thinking'. So this year I'm looking into a sophisticated approach to fashion with the odd cheeky item or two. More importantly, I believe what you wear define's what you are. It might seem a load of rubbish to some, but when you see people change, the first thing you'll see about them is their style. Looking at my friends and I over the past few years and how we dressed, has become a clear indication of how we've all matured and moved on. I alone have started opting for clothes with a timeless appeal. Simple styles and colours which are easy to mix and match. My friends (particularly girls) have started to wear smarter tops, fitted jeans and sexier dresses. (Gone are the days when wearing baggy trousers with holes, rock inspired vest tops and converse). For the guys, better fitting shirts, smarter trousers and good jacket's really shows how they have matured...well style wise anyway.
Looking at different style's, I found the following images I feel appeal to me, and what I'm aiming for this year. The colours, styles, combinations and beauty is what I'm looking into this year.
